Designer Issey Miyake always used his unique perspective to conduct manufacturing that changed the concept of clothing. The deeply nuanced text is typical of Koike, a contemporary of Miyake. Her descriptions of his work and character were created based on her especially close perspective as an author who knew Miyake since his student days, and observed and was involved with his remarkable activities and other endeavors that went beyond manufacturing.

Koike’s unique descriptions and perspective, which have been a constant support to Japanese creativity, also skillfully depict a sense of the times as centered on Miyake, creating a fascinating documentary work. Each chapter features about 30 color illustrations from Tadanori Yokoo’s invitations to the Issey Miyake Paris Collection between 1977 and 1999. The dignified, vertical Japanese text printed with letterpress printing is paired with sophisticated, horizontal English text for a single volume that demonstrates the mastery of Katsumi Asaba.
